WIN’s mission dedicates itself to the families and children of Kennedy Krieger Institute. While the activities and events it holds may seem small to some, it can make the biggest difference for others. Women’s Initiative Network hosts several events and activities to ensure the mission is carried out—events such as Bag Stuffing, Planting Hope, and an annual fundraising initiative—just to name a few.
Bag Stuffing for parents is an activity held as often as bags are needed. WIN joins together and stuffs eco-friendly bags, for the families with a child on the inpatient unit, with essential items for a comfortable stay. Families have impressed the importance these toiletries hold because it is one less thing they need to worry about.
Planting Hope is an annual event held at the Institute’s Broadway Campus that combines the families, children, and women of the community to engage in therapeutic activities. During the event, there is live music, crafts, face painting and other enjoyable activities for the whole family!
Each year, WIN finds a sizable fundraising initiative to hold for the Institute. For instance, in 2012, WIN’s Sunflower Committee agreed to fundraise for a much needed lift-van for the school programs. The event was an evening on the waterfront at Waterfront Kitchen; it turned out to be a huge success. Both the students and staff are overjoyed about their new van that is used to take students to jobs and instruction in the community
