The Women’s Initiative Network for Kennedy Krieger Institute (WIN) hosted its sixth annual Wine Walkabout at Caves Valley Golf Club on Thursday, November 29th. Thanks to the hard work of Co-Chairs Shari Tompkins and Emma Young, the event, which included a raffle and live auction, was a success: Generous sponsors and guests helped raise $43,000 for Kennedy Krieger.
The proceeds will benefit research at Kennedy Krieger on brain and behavioral development by Dr. Mark Mahone, director of the Institute’s Department of Neuropsychology, and his team, who recently published a first-of-its-kind longitudinal study on 4- and 5-year-old children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The proceeds will also support Camp SOAR, an annual overnight camp experience created to enhance relationships between former inpatients and their siblings, ages 8 to 16.
Guests at the Wine Walkabout enjoyed creative food and wine pairings, listened to Dr. Mahone speak about his research, and heard from a grateful family, who shared the story of how Dr. Mahone’s study drastically changed their daughter’s life. At the conclusion of the event, Tompkins and Young asked guests to consider making a gift in honor of someone they know with ADHD. It was a wonderful way to encourage further support for Dr. Mahone and Kennedy Krieger while reminding guests of the importance of their attendance that evening.
