Stephanie Cooper Greenberg is a loyal donor and supporter of Kennedy Krieger. In 2010, she coupled her love of animals with her dedication to the Institute by starting the R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dog) program, which helps children improve their reading skills by reading to a trained therapy dog.
“One child changed everything for me. I was doing a reading program at a library, and this boy read with such zeal and joy to Mattilda, my therapy dog, who sat on his lap the whole time. Afterward, his mom came up to me with this shocked look on her face, and she said, ‘I’ve never seen anything like that before. My child doesn’t read out loud. He has a speech impediment and doesn’t like the sound of his voice.’ Those words stuck with me. He was a patient at Kennedy Krieger, and I just knew we could do more with a reading program.”
