Kennedy Krieger Institute’s 29th annual Festival of Trees was a huge success! Over Thanksgiving weekend, the Maryland State Fairgrounds’ Cow Palace was transformed into a winter wonderland, featuring more than 900 spectacular holiday trees, wreaths and gingerbread houses created by local artists, corporations and schools.
This year, Kennedy Krieger honored Lainy Lebow-Sachs, longtime Institute executive vice president, chief Festival of Trees visionary and community advocate in the opening day ceremonies. Lainy will be retiring at the end of the 2018 after more than 24 years of service. Dr. Brad Schlaggar, the Institute’s new president and CEO, helped officiate opening day events with Lainy.
More than 52,000 attendees kicked off the holiday season at the fairgrounds with live entertainment, shopping, a silent auction, pony rides, a train display and—of course—Santa!
All funds raised during Festival of Trees support Kennedy Krieger’s patient care, research and training, special education, and community programs.
Special thanks go to all the volunteers, vendors, entertainers, staff members, designers, attendees and sponsors—especially our title sponsor, BB&T—who helped make this event possible. We could not have done it without you!
