Mussel Up for a Cause is a fundraiser to benefit Kennedy Krieger Institute's Project HEAL. It is hosted by Kennedy Krieger Institute, Bertha's Mussels, Heavy Seas Ales, and Baltimore Beer Week.
The event will include a a four-course prix fixe meal featuring items such as Cannon Fire Mussels - mussels sauteed with Heavy Seas Loose Cannon IPA, andouille sausage, crushed tomatoes and ancho chili powder. Each course will be paired with a beer from Heavy Seas Brewing Company. Guests will have the opportunity to win a gift basket featuring prizes that include a tour of the Brooklyn Brewery and a one night stay in Brooklyn, NY, as well as donations from Baltimore establishments.
In 2009, Jesse Norris, son of Bertha’s Mussels owner Andy Norris, was diagnosed with Landau-Kleffner Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy, as well as attention-deficit/hyperactive disorder (ADHD). Kennedy Krieger Institute has helped Jesse, now age nine, gain control of his seizures and behavioral challenges thanks to a variety of neurological and speech therapies. Kennedy Krieger’s Project HEAL provided resources, referrals, and support to Andy and Jesse throughout their journey, motivating Andy to bring attention to Project HEAL’s work.
