Recognizing Almost Two Decades of Volunteerism

Volunteers

Mary Beth Connolly has dedicated her time and talent to the Festival of Trees for almost 20 years. She is one of the many loyal volunteers who spend countless hours decorating the trees, wreaths, and gingerbread houses that bring this event to life every year. Mary Beth first participated in the event in 1997 through her service club, the Maryland Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, which sponsored a booth. Since then, she has recruited her neighbors, family members, and the Irish Charities of Maryland to help decorate. In total, she has had her hand in decorating and donating more than 40 items to the event.

The most exciting part of the process, says Mary Beth, is seeing the transformation of the fairground’s Cow Palace into a magical winter wonderland. Helping those with disabilities is especially meaningful for Mary Beth, as one of her family members has a disability.Participating in this beautiful event is her way of making a small difference for the kids at Kennedy Krieger, which keeps her coming back year after year.
